Future Stakes

December 14, 2018

“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in Me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father.”   – Jesus,        John 14:12

1984’s The Terminator, smashed theaters.

The futuristic movie features Arnold Schwarzenegger, a cyborg assassin disguised as a human who travels from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor.

Sent to protect Sarah is Kyle Reese who reveals Skynet, an artificial intelligence system, sparks a future nuclear holocaust.

Sarah is targeted because Skynet knows her unborn son will lead the fight against them.

What hasn’t’ happened yet – the birth of her son threatens a future dominant machines want to protect.

Sarah’s unborn son has the potential to change the future.

If the Terminator succeeds in killing Sarah, then there is no hero to alter future events.

The ultimate abortion.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

It’s a battle, a war.

Spiritual holocaust.

Heaven or hell.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

Spiritual battle isn’t about your current situation or circumstances – it’s about what hasn’t happened yet – it’s about your future.

The adversary wants to keep you blind, distracted, discouraged so you never step into God’s plan.

His good purpose for your life.

The enemy wants to keep you from:

• Who you will become.

• God assignments.

• Prayer.

• Truth.

• Eternity with God.

Religion can sedate, provide a false sense of security. Click To Tweet

Church on Sunday, Bible study, Thursday.

Breathe in but never out.

Inactivity renders faith useless – hyperventilating into unconsciousness.

Routine of religion neither hot or cold.

Lukewarm.

So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Revelation 3:16

There is no middle ground – choose this day whom I will serve.

Life or death, heaven or hell.

Lukewarm is the bleachers – not in or out.

In God’s economy, not in is out.

“Whoever is not with Me is against Me, and whoever does not gather with Me scatters.” –Jesus, Matthew 12:20

The world is an obstacle course, designed to mask the narrow path.

Noise and distractions.

Worldly pursuits.

My selfish desires.

The world celebrates it – “Follow your heart.”

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? Jeremiah 17:9

Feelings lie, lead me astray.

Cause chaos and drama.

I put the focus on me and mine instead of God and His people, places and things.

It’s not about what I do but whose I am.

Make no mistake, this world is a set-up, a conspiracy.

Designed to detour.

Kingdom keep-away.

A yes on earth is a yes in Heaven.

A no on earth is a no in Heaven.

Words have power – power to steer my mind, soul, life.

God spoke the world into existence.

Faith comes by hearing the Word about Christ.

A message unspoken goes unheard.

The enemy’s goal is to kill and destroy.

• Kill and destroy dreams.

• Kill and destroy marriages.

• Kill and destroy hope.

• Kill and destroy ambition, love, relationship, families.

• Kill and destroy anything good or beautiful or of God.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

The devil, Satan, the terminator is real.

He rules over this world.

God’s Word warns me to be alert and wise to the devil’s schemes.

Ignoring or not taking it seriously leads me into enemy territory.

I become callous, even unaware of sin.

Tractor beam pulls me to places I never intended to go.

If a frog is suddenly put into boiling water, it will jump out.

But if the frog is put in lukewarm water which is brought to a boil slowly, it will not perceive the danger and get cooked to death.

Most sin starts subtly – a small, white lie, a harmless flirtation, not keeping my word.

A small spark eventually sets fire to my faith, my family, my friends – my life.

Religion without relationship is a ploy, a decoy, a scheme.

A sedative that makes me think I’m doing all the right things.

I’m okay, you’re okay.

My life – how I spend, speak, live looks the same.

Disease of deception.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6:11

The Bible arms me for battle – a shield of faith extinguishes the arrows of the evil one.

Belt of truth.

Breastplate of righteousness.

Gospel of peace.

God’s kingdom is one of love power – power that builds instead of tears down.

Forgives instead of hates.

Enemy loving power.

Power that turns food into a meal, a house into a home, little into enough, orphans into heirs.

Power He grows in His children so they become warriors who set captives free.

Christ isn’t a one time yes – it’s a choice I make daily in how I live and love.

Who I serve – me or God.

In my weakness He is strong.

The enemy wants my hope and future.

The enemy wants my tomorrow.

What has God called me to that I’m not doing?

What areas of my life do I need to give up, give to Him?

In the Terminator, one man made a difference:

“We were that close to going out forever. But there was one man who taught us to fight, to storm the wire of the camps, to smash those metal machines into junk. He turned it around. He brought us back from the brink. His name is Connor. John Connor. Your son, Sarah….your unborn son.” –Kyle Reese, The Terminator

One man made a difference in our world, in this life.

Sin divided us from a Holy God, our Father and Creator.

We were close to going out forever.

But this one man turned it around.

He brought us back from the brink.

His name is Jesus.

God’s son.

The Savior of the World.

Fight to follow.

The path is narrow.

Make no mistake, we are at war.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
