Living Sacrifice

June 13, 2018

“But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” –Jesus
John 4: 14

The woman came to the well.

In need.

She thought she needed water – But El Roi, the God who sees, saw all of her.

He knew the good, the bad, the ugly.

His vision pierces heart’s darkest places.

“Thirst no more.”

She doesn’t understand but something in her wants what He has.

This woman steeped in sin.

The man at the well never shames her.

He doesn’t mention commandments or penalties.

He tells her about the kingdom, the truth of her life and how she can join Him.

Worship in spirit and truth.

His love is unconventional and unconditional.

Disciples arrive, wonder but dare not question.

She’s amazed at the revelation, runs to tell everyone.

Weakness transforms to witness.

Live given and broken.

Give what I have and break open the kingdom.

Present my body as a living sacrifice.

Spiritual worship.

Stop conforming to standards of this world.

Unequal scales of grace – one for me, another for someone else.

Judge not.

Instead, genuine love on display.

Patient, kind.

No record of wrongs, not arrogant or rude.

Bearing all things, hoping all things, enduring all things.

Unconventional, unconditional love that never wears out or ends.

Forgive as I’ve been forgiven.

Overcome evil with good.

Feed my hungry enemies.

Slumber no more – the night is gone, morning is here.

Time to cast off darkness and put on armor of light. Click To Tweet

It’s not a battle of skin and bones, here and now but of powerful things unseen.

The gospel of peace gets me ready.

Faith shields arrows flaming.

His Word is my spirit’s sword.

He is with me always.

He gives authority.

He tells me to be bold, courageous.

Crucified.

His life for mine.

Now lived in unashamed faith.

A beggar telling other beggars where to find food.

No better, no worse.

I am not to hide deliverance in my heart or have lips restrained.

Speak of faithfulness and salvation, love and grace.

Life everlasting.

Light the way home.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

More about Liz

I'm a free spirit. I hate rules and legalism. I love art and nature, music, the beach and dogs. I like to garden, take pictures and read. I tend to speak my mind and have a rip-the-band-aid -off approach to life. (Brace yourself, this might hurt.)
